2 Stars Really, Really Basic
When I saw this book, I was excited about reading it. Unfortunately, it’s not really what it claims to be. There is lots of basic info about Google, but very little about Adwords, and certainly not anything advanced. Don’t be fooled by the other reviews — this is a basic guide to Google, not a ‘complete’ guide.

5 Stars Bruce Brown’s latest book, The Complete Guide To Google Advertising Including Tips, Tricks, & Strategies to Create a Winning Adv
Are you looking to expand your business opportunities via Internet sales? Or, alternatively, are you interesting in marketing a particular product or service through search engines? If you answered yes to either of these questions, then Bruce Brown’s latest book, The Complete Guide To Google Advertising Including Tips, Tricks, & Strategies to Create a Winning Advertising Plan, is a must-have for your reference library.

Brown’s book is extremely informative, logically devised, and most important, easily understood. It is very “user-friendly” and anyone, from novice to marketing expert, will find a myriad of new marketing ideas easily adapted for a particular product or service. Another bonus for both business owners and consumers is the list of Search Engines and Web Directories listed on pages 277, 278, & 279. This section provides the name of multiple search engines used when searching for information, goods, and services.

The Complete Guide To Google Advertising Including Tips, Tricks, & Strategies to Create a Winning Advertising Plan takes readers through a logical thought process that describes the who, what, when, where, and why of Internet advertising. In addition to text definitions and easily understood concepts, it also utilizes copies of screen shots to help readers grasp a particular idea or principle under discussion. Brown does a great job of taking Internet terminology and explaining it in language anyone can understand, and provides links to additional web sites for associated references.

Even if you are a consumer looking for a particular product or service on the Internet, this book is a must-read. It gives consumers and business owners alike a better understanding of how Internet marketing works, and the glossary at the end provides easily understood definitions of Internet terminology users frequently encounter but do not often understand.

If you surf the Internet, you need to buy this book!

5 Stars Great Google Guide
This publication unravels the workings of the most popular search engine on the internet, Google. Through creativity, organization and strategically placed keywords, Google will place the website for your business in the top search results and you will have more visits to your site. It only makes sense that more visits, or hits, the more sales you will make.

In The Complete Guide to Google Advertising, Bruce C. Brown explains how to utilize the various marketing methods Google offers. The techniques explained include Pay-Per-Click advertising, AdWords and Adsense. He also provides a history of Google and online marketing that is extremely informative. Various case studies are cited to provide back-up proof that these techniques work.

The section that I found the most interesting was about developing a marketing plan. Mr. Brown not only identified the steps to achieve that, but he also explained each one in detail. Beginning with a market analysis and moving on through establishing a business objective until you finally end up with a marketing strategy. Through this it is much easier to decide which aspect of Google’s marketing choices will fit your business the best.

This is a book that can be referred back to repeatedly as the focus of your business changes and markets fluctuate. This book is a great resource for Internet marketing.

1 Stars A compilation of info available for free on Google.com
As the person in charge of marketing for a $150M company, I purchased this book along with a few others to get more information on hands-on SEO. I’m young and familiar with web page design, so I didn’t want to get a [...] book, which would certainly go at a snails-pace. This book is a lovely compilation of very brief chapters, mostly paraphrasing tons of information available for free on Google.com regarding Google Adwords. It delicately holds your hand through the most simple concepts but fails to actually define some of the more complex jargon. I read this front to back in about 2 hours, and when I closed the book I felt like I had learned nothing. I have never even opened the Google.com AdWords websites, but since this book is basically a screen-shot portfolio of that site, I can’t imagine someone can’t obtain the majority of this information online, for free. I don’t recommend this book, in fact [...]. The book isn’t even worth purchasing for the limited amount of hints-and-tips. The “secrets” are no secrets at all. The best strategy this book gives is to, I swear it, WRITE A MARKETING STRATEGY. It gives you limited help, but basically just outlines….the outline.

5 Stars Excellent Guidance for Beginners!
Google has revolutionized the business of advertising on the Internet by providing new tools and data that allow thoughtful users to objectively plan and evaluate results. Smith’s “Grow Your Business with Google AdWords” provides an excellent overview to help those with new businesses get started, and existing Internet advertisers to improve. Smith begins by pointing out the difference between search engine optimization and search advertising. The former optimizes a site (eg. [...]) so that it is found and highly rated by Google and other search engines, and the latter places ads alongside selected search results (eg. tool rentals). This book is about the latter.

Earlier search engines crammed their home pages with links, features, and third-party ads - that was how they made their money. Google’s, however, is bare. Google always ranks information-providing sites (eg. Wikipedia) higher than commercial sites. Google makes most of its money through AdWords.

Google’s ‘PageRank” favors ‘inbound links’ - sites linking to yours, thus giving you ‘authority’ status per Google, as long as you don’t reciprocate. (Previoiusly this was a means of abusing evaluations to raise ranking results.) Product-vending sites are not likely to be highly linked to.

In general, the more you bid for a customer’s click on your ad, the higher up on the list your ad appears; how effective your ad is and its relevance (eg. location) are also determinants. If your ad doesn’t receive at least one click-through for every 200 or so impressions, Google will decrease it’s ranking, possibly even disable it. Conversely, an effective ad will gradually cost less to maintain the same position. (The bad news is that competitors will notice your success and copy you - it’s a constant challenge.)

The Google Search Network is a number of Google partners (eg. [...]) that can be used to expand to non-Google users without having to repeat all the setup work. Author Smith recommends starting out simple, with just Google. Then there’s the Google Content Network - hundreds of thousands of quality websites, news pages and blogs (eg. [...], New York Times) that partner with Google to display targeted AdWords ads.The author recommends careful choice of these sites to use.

Google will suggest a recommended daily ad budget for starting out, based on historic experience for ads using those keywords in the past. It also recommends bid levels. Another Google option is using ’standard spread’ (ads spread evenly throughout the day), or accelerated (show ads as quickly as possible). Other options include location, maximum bid, how billed (per click, per sale), offering different bids at different times of the day, rotating among different test ads to evaluate them compared to each other (this would include playing with price). Negative keywords allow specifying when you don’t want your ad shown - eg. when ‘free’ is one of the search terms. Quoting a price can also quickly screen out those not likely to become customers. Smith also recommends documenting everything, and only changing one element at a time so you can truly understand what is causing what.

4 Stars Very good introductory text
As a mortgage broker, much of my time is spent deciding how best to generate new business. We have been using streaming video successfully for over a year, but only on our own site. We know we can get wider distribution of our content using social media (including YouTube), so I invested the huge sum of $16.47 and bought this book, hoping to get at least the basics of how best to leverage a YouTube presence.

I was very pleasantly surprised to find that the book exceeded my expectations. I didn’t find pages upon pages of “filler, tellig me things I already knew, like how to plug a webcam into a USB port. Instead, I found some practical tips on good video production–and, most importantly, a lot of discussion about the social aspects of YouTube: how to create an audience base for my videos.

The book is well organized and well written. I took just a couple of hours the first time through, highlighting sections for later review.

Highly recommended.

3 Stars A very basic guide on how to produce online video media and how doing so can help benefit your business
“YouTube for Business: Online Marketing for Any Business” is a very simple guide on how to use YouTube and how it can help your business become more modernized and tech-savvy. However, the content of this book is somewhat decieving. The first few chapters actually talk about how YouTube vidoes can help enhance your company’s image and increase the overall awareness of your company. It elaborates on how producing YouTube videos allows your customers to put a face to your company and become, in a sense, more personable. In addition, Miller also talks about why your company’s online presence is benefitical in the long run and how it can be used to reach potential customers from all over the world. Information of this nature is, unfortunately, brief and the remainder of the book serves a very basic step-by-step guide to producing effective videos, managing them on YouTube, and how to track your videos in terms of website traffic.

Personally, I found that this book was a bit of a disappointment. I believe that the first 3 chapters are legitimately benefitical to companies that are curious about how to utilize the internet and online videos to better organize and promote themselves. Aside from these chapters, and a few chapters on to generate revenue for your business via YouTube, the rest of the book is relevant only to those who struggle with the concept of creating different types of videos and managing a YouTube account. Nonetheless, this book can help any business (or individual for that matter) learn about the practical uses of YouTube and can be benefitical for very inexperienced internet users.

1 Stars This is a classic terrible book written by someone that has not used this medium to make money
If you can’t read on youtube their rules I guess you can buy this book.

Because all it does is regurgitate the obvious and add in a few geek terms. DON”T waste your money

4 Stars Probably too basic for most, Great for a non-technical newbie
A bit too basic but solid concepts to help position your business on Youtube. Very useful for a small business owner who may be never to the internet or new at exploring social media, social networking, and emerging technology, widgets, gadgets, etc. haha. For most advanced users, this is certainly too simplistic and more of a ‘how does it work’ functionality then useful tools to help make money or position yourself, your brand, or your company on the web through youtube. I did really like the case studies used which helped to get my creative juices flowing.

5 Stars He covered it all
This book is exactly what I needed. He spoke in simple terms, but provided great detail and valuable information. He covered every detail. I feel very comfortable about my knowledge of YouTube operations, making my videos, uploading, editing, and the whole process. I highly recommend this book.
