The Author’s Guide to Building an Online Platform: Leveraging the Internet to Sell More Books

The buzz word in publishing houses and at writer s conferences these days is platform.
As in, What is the author s platform?
With more than 175,000 new titles published each year, publishers want to sign authors who are capable of helping to sell their book.
The platform may be that the author is a widely syndicated columnist, is the internationally acclaimed expert in his field, or is a highly sought-after motivational speaker. Or perhaps the author is a New York City television news anchor. These types of platforms make a publisher s mouth water.
But what about authors who aren t widely known or acclaimed? How does the ordinary guy build a credible platform?
The answer: the Internet. Today you can build an international platform right from your kitchen table even if your kitchen table is in Manhattan…Kansas.
User Ratings and Reviews
3 Stars Still don’t know what to go after
Focused on non-fiction, but in this phase of my life, I write fiction; see my web-site; see Mystic Signals 2, Apex Magazine Vol 3 Issue 1. Covers a lot of ground, but with little to help me prioritize my time (is writing this review a waste of that time?). Maybe I understand my options better, but I didn’t get much direction from this book.
5 Stars This book is a lifesaver
I used this book as a reference / resource tool recently and it helped me land a PR job when I had no previous PR experience. If you need to figure out quickly how to leverage social networking and social media to sell anything, I’d highly recommend buying and reading (and re-reading) this book.
4 Stars The Author’s Guide to Building an Online Platform
The Author’s Guide to Building an Online Platform by Stephanie Chandler answered all my questions. I read it because it was recommended by an author I admire.
This book gives specific instructions on how to set up a web site and a blog. It’s filled with onliine resources of web sites and research sites. It takes you through marketing strategies and media opportunities … all the way to Amazon.com success strategies. The Hot Tips alone are worth the buy.
This book is absolutely four stars.
5 Stars A Treasure of a Book
What an excellent source for an author at any step in the process. Publishers are depending on the author to help market the book these days. Stephanie gives some very practical advice about creating a buzz for your book with the Internet. She not only offers suggestions but points you to the specific places where you can go to do just that. She also gives samples of press releases, email newsletters, etc.
This is definitely a book I will keep in my library. I highly recommend this one to any person considering publishing, whether self-publishing or traditional press. A+++
5 Stars Solid Gold Wisdom
Nothing is more meaning than a resource with a wealth of knowledge and wisdom. This book is easy to read. The inclusion of interviews of successful people provide a medium for creative synergy. Online presence is a must-have in today’s world. This book is priceless. You need one in your library.
