Web Copy That Sells: The Revolutionary Formula for Creating Killer Copy Every Time

In order for a Web site to sell effectively, it must appeal to the unique culture, mindset, and psychology of the Web. Simply put, what works in the brick-and-mortar world does not necessarily grab Web shoppers. Companies selling products and services online need to promote their wares with engaging copy that grabs attention and compels Web site visitors to buy.

Web Copy That Sells presents copy strategies that have been proven time and again in the e-commerce arena. Maria Veloso, perhaps the most widely acclaimed Web copywriter in the world, reveals her revolutionary approach based on five simple questions, which, when answered, make the copy practically write itself. Veloso crams all the information from her 12-hour, $997 live seminars into a comprehensive book that will help any Web copywriter:

* write sizzling and irresistible Web copy, e-mails, and marketing communications * quickly turn lackluster sites into “perpetual money machines” * use Neuro-Linguistic Programming and psychological tactics to compel Web surfers to buy * avoid the top three blunders that can wipe out your sales * convert up to 50% of online prospects into paying customers * and more!

4 Stars Veloso: A Modern Day Genius
Maria Veloso has created a book that is a definite guideline for copywriters everywhere to use to generate sales. This book is a way to revolve your business’s website from a monotonous reflection of your company to a true asset. Veloso’s book is an easy read that is well structured and filled with information that anybody considering writing web copy must read. With this book anyone can become a copywriter with the tools to write compelling and mesmerizing copy that will have marketers everywhere striving to obtain your level proficiency with writing web copy.

Maria Veloso’s credentials are not short by any means. Veloso is truly an expert when it comes to web copywriting. She is the director of Web Copywriting University and former director of creative writing at [...]. After 27 years of experience, Veloso has generated millions of dollars for a wide variety of clients. From a short list of people you would want to write this book, Maria Veloso is at the top of that list and this book proves that.

Throughout Veloso’s book she uses simple, yet successful ways to express her ideas to the reader. She was able to simplify a very complex craft of writing web copy down to easy step-by-step guidelines for Internet marketers to follow. Some of the most helpful guidelines in the book to turn your lackluster site into a true asset for your business are:

1. The three fundamental rules for writing web copy

2. 5 easy steps to make your web copy sell

3. The do’s and don’ts of Web Copywriting

4. Guidelines for writing newsletters and e-mails

Veloso starts her book off by giving the reader simple fundamentals for writing web copy. The first chapter is probably the most important chapter of the book. Along with the fundamentals she gives simple do’s and don’ts and how to become a great web copywriter. She then continues to build upon her ideas in the next chapters, giving a blueprint for writing successful web copy, going into the psychology of your audience, and giving the reader simple crafting methods. Veloso also expressed her belief in using e-mails as the Internet killer application. She believes every company should be using e-mails to build profit.

As you can see I am quite fond of this book and there is more to this than the simple and easy to read ways Maria Veloso has with words. Veloso has given us a book that can turn our inefficient website into a sales giant. Veloso was able to explain to the reader the difference when writing on the web compared to everything else. There is a definite way people use the Internet and Veloso was able to explain how to reach these people through web copy. When running an Internet store the most important thing at the end of the day is to generate sales. Maria Veloso was able to explain what theses steps are to get a customer to pull out their credit cards and buy our product or service.

Although I do think this is a great book, it was not perfect (4 out of 5 stars). Veloso’s examples in this book were not easily related to her topic of choice. She used some abstract examples that were quite hard to follow at times. Veloso also comes across at times as somewhat overconfident with her beliefs presenting them as fact and not opinion. I know she is selling her book and ideas but her language at times comes across overconfident and arrogant. I also found as I read further into the book some ideas were being repeated, just in different context. As she kept her information concise, at times she continued to pound away on a topic that is seemingly quite simple. I would have liked to see Veloso push the reader’s intellect a bit more and dive into more complex issues. Maybe she is in the process of writing a book like that now!

On the whole I recommend this book to anyone who will be doing any kind of web copywriting. Veloso’s book is an easy read that is well structured and filled with information that anybody considering writing web copy must read. Not only does Maria Veloso give a solid blueprint for the reader to follow she also gives extremely well thought insight into this type of writing. “Web Copy That Sells” should be a book that anyone studying marketing or the Internet should be required to read before the completion of their degree. The only thing I want to know is that if you are in this internet business world, why would you not want these fundamental tools that will help your entire company succeed? I do not believe this book is worthy of a 5 out of 5 rating but if Amazon would allow me I give it a 4.5 of 5 stars!

3 Stars Ok
This is an ok read. Some good points but a bit dated and dry.
